TRON Doctoral Students
At TRON we believe in the creative power of gifted and enthusiastic people and in finding and fostering new talents. We offer exceptional opportunities for ambitious scientists to work in a dynamic international research environment to investigate innovative diagnostics and therapies for the treatment of cancer and other severe diseases with high medical need. In cooperation with the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and its Graduate School of Immunotherapy, TRON offers doctoral students an educational environment with cutting-edge technologies and world class scientific mentoring. Doctoral students at TRON work in interdisciplinary teams and are encouraged to independent thinking and problem-solving. They have the opportunity to work on innovative projects in tumor research, biomarker discovery and vaccine development.
Young scientists at TRON are an essential part of the team and are challenged to regularly present their data in-house as part of their professional development. They are also strongly encouraged to show their findings at national and international congresses and to publish their results in peer-reviewed international journals. In addition to the curriculum of the Johannes Gutenberg University, TRON supports doctoral students with dedicated seminars and workshops. All meetings are in English and emphasize analytical presentation skills.
An annual overnight retreat for all doctoral students, centered on focused seminars, where students and advisors will work together in a casual atmosphere. The event is organized by our PhD students.

TRON currently has 17 doctoral students doing research in the fields of RNA vaccination optimization, personalized anti-tumoral immunotherapy, protein engineering, tumor immunology, bioinformatics and systems biology, next generation sequencing, stem cells, adoptive T-cell therapy, biomarker characterization, pre-clinical tumor models, vial gene transfer and bi-specific antibodies. They work in interdisciplinary project teams, giving each student the opportunity to learn about areas and methods both within and beyond their own research focus.

LIFE IN MAINZ
The TRON facilities are in the heart of Mainz, a historic city with a young and international population, a vibrant university of more than 36 000 students, and lively cafés, arts venues and festivals. With its central location, it is well connected to Europe and the world. The TRON doctoral student community takes advantage of many of the urban activities and regularly meets for a night at the movies, bowling, volleyball and other team sports.
