Sommeruni 2026: Exploring Cancer Research One Cell at a Time
As part of SommerUni Immunology & Biomedicine 2026, organized by Collaborative Research Center 1292 coordinated by the University Medical Center Mainz, school students Hanna and Merle visited TRON to gain hands-on insights into modern translational cancer research. Hosted by the TRON Single Cell Omics Unit, the project “Understanding Tumors One Cell at a Time – Modern Single-Cell Analyses in Cancer Research” introduced the students to the cutting-edge technologies used to investigate tumor biology and the tumor microenvironment.
Throughout the week, the Hanna and Merle combined laboratory work with computational data analysis, learning how researchers study tumor cells and apply single-cell RNA sequencing to characterize individual cell populations within tumors. The program concluded with a joint poster session at the University Medical Center Mainz, where participants presented their findings alongside fellow SommerUni students.
By providing early exposure to state-of-the-art research methods, the SommerUni offers a unique opportunity to inspire young talents and foster enthusiasm for biomedical research. TRON and the Single Cell Omics Unit were delighted to contribute to this year’s program and support the next generation of scientists.
