Seminars in Translational Science

Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Grünewald from the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and Hopp Children’s Cancer Center (KiTZ) Heidelberg will be our guest at TRON on October 26th. His talk, “Translational genomics and target therapy of pediatric sarcomas”, will offer insights into his research on the molecular mechanisms of cancer and new approaches to diagnosis and treatment.

Prof. Grünewald is Principal Investigator at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) / Hopp Children’s Cancer Center (KiTZ) Heidelberg and holds the professorship for Translational Pediatric Sarcoma Research division at at Heidelberg University. He also serves as a senior pathologist at Heidelberg University Hospital. His achievements have been recognized with several awards, including the Kind-Philipp Award, the Gerhard Domagk Award, and the Rudolf Virchow Award.

His ERC-funded research combines functional genomics with experimental approaches in vitro and in vivo to uncover the mechanisms underlying sarcomas in children, adolescents, and young adults. His interdisciplinary team works to translate these findings into new diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies, with the aim of improving treatment outcomes and overcoming drug resistance.
