Prof. Dr. Hans-Jürgen Thiesen
“Autoimmunity in oncology: from epitope profiling to vaccination studies”
Prof. Hans-Jürgen Thiesen is the director of the Institute for Immunology in Rostock and an expert in the analysis of general mechanisms in transcriptional gene regulation with emphasis on transcriptional repressor mechanisms.
He is involved in several regional, national and international scientific research networks, including the BMBF-Leitprojektverbund ”Proteom-Analyse des Menschen” (Proteome Alliance), the “Landesforschungsschwerpunkt Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: Genome-oriented Biotechnology” and the BMBF-Project “Genome-oriented clinical research”.
Prof. Thiesen’s current scientific interests are (i) the genetic determination of responder and non responders to biologicals such as Enbrel or Anakindra. (ii) the identification of differentially expressed genes in synovial tissue derived from patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis versus osteoarthritis. (iii) the determination of autoantigens specified by autoantibodies present in autoimmune sera and (iv) the identification of susceptibility loci and genes in conjunction with congenic mouse strains.
